3rd Copenhagen School of Stochastic Programming (CSSP-3)

From August 19 to 21, Ms. Das and Ms. Sahatciu joined the University of Copenhagen's Department of Mathematical Sciences for the 3rd Copenhagen School of Stochastic Programming (CSSP-3), an intensive course on the mathematical modeling of decision-making under uncertainty. The course was organized by Trine Boomsma, Jiali Deng, Francesco Lugani, and Giovanni Pantuso, and supported by the PhD School of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. Over three days, the course walked participants through the field's core methodology, moving from foundations to advanced topics: Introduction to Stochastic Programming, Formalization of Stochastic Programs, Chance-Constrained Stochastic Programming, Stochastic Programs with Stochastic Dominance Constraints, Mixed-Integer Stochastic Programming, Stochastic Programs with Decision-Dependent Uncertainty. The course drew PhD students — and other researchers working on optimization under uncertainty — from mathematics, engineering, and economics backgrounds, coming from universities across Denmark and abroad. The scientific program was complemented by a welcome reception on the first evening and a course dinner on the second evening, created space for participants to connect informally with both lecturers and peers. For our chair, participation in CSSP-3 was a valuable opportunity to engage directly with leading researchers in stochastic programming and to connect with a broader community of scholars working on optimization under uncertainty.
